It’s official. Rumors had already been growing about exactly which parks Six Flags was planning to sell. Now the nation’s largest theme park chain has officially named the six parks that are on the chopping block. According to the Washington Post the parks are: Magic Mountain near Los Angeles, Wild Waves & Enchanted Village near Seattle, Elitch Gardens in Denver, SplashTown near Houston, Darien Lake near Buffalo and Waterworld in Concord, Calif.

Allegedly, Six Flags wants the parks to remain parks in hopes that they’ll find a buyer. The biggest surprises of the six are Magic Mountain and Darien Lake. Magic Mountain boasts the most roller coasters in the world (tied with Cedar Point at 17). Superman The Escape, X, Flashback, and Tatsu are either unique or rare coasters. I hope this park is saved, but with Knott’s Berry Farms and two Disney parks in the neighborhood, I’m doubtfull that Six Flags will find a buyer. The competition may be too much for a potential buyer to want to tackle.

Darien Lake is a smaller park, but it seems to fit with the companies direction toward families and away from teenagers. It boasts a concert venue and a large campground facility. The closest similar-sized park is almost 200 miles away. Only time will tell if these parks find a new owner or are sold for land, torn down, dismantled, and redeveloped.
