During the off-season, several parks will be preparing to open or reopen in 2007.

Ghost Town in the Sky, located in Western North Carolina, has been closed since 2002. After literally being a ‘ghost town’ for four years the park is expected to reopen in 2007. The park’s largest coaster is Red Devil a steel looping coaster made by Hopkins. The location in the mountains looks gorgeous. Check out the new Ghost Town in the Sky site.

Carolina Crossroads will open in Roanoke Rapids, NC. It will get the Zippin Pippin, a wooden coaster located in Liberty Land near Memphis, TN. Dolly Parton’s brother will head up this park which is part amusement park and part entertainment complex.

Wild West World will have its grand opening in May 2007. It will be a western-themed park north of Wichita, KS in Valley Center. It looks like they’re starting small with yet-to-be-named family coasters. According to the Roller Coaster Database, one will be a Wacky Worm similar to this one at DelGrosso’s Amusement Park. The other coaster will be a Reverchon Wild Mouse with spinning cars similar to Primeval Whirl at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Wild West World won’t have a lot of competition. The only other park in the state is a small park in Wichita called All Star Adventures.
