  • Coaster Critic Finally Meets The Beast

    Meteorologists Don’t Fail Me Now
I’m planning on making a return trip to Kings Island. Hopefully this time I’ll get into the park. On my attempted visit in April of ‘05, a fluke snow storm caused the park to shut down. So I went to movie theater across the street and watched Kung Fu Hustle. Not a bad substitute, but not really what I expected.

I’ve been itching to get to Kings Island since I became an enthusiasts more than 10 years ago. The Beast is a legend. It’s a wooden coaster that’s one of the longest roller coasters in the world. Also, Firehawk (a flying coaster that was relocated from Geauga Lake) just opened there this season. And I’ll get to ride the newly reopened and delooped Son of Beast as well as a coaster with Mini Cooper trains based on the Italian Job movies. Lastly, it’ll be cool to check off the last large theme park in the Eastern half of the U.S. Of course, coaster reviews and a full park review will follow. Wish me luck!

Anyone have any Kings Island tips? Feel free to leave a comment below.

That’s what I’ve heard. So I’m going to attempt to hit Kings Island at 5 PM. That way I can take advantage of the twilight rate ($24.95), the shorter lines, and get some night rides.

Any seat recommendations for the Beast?

    Thanks for stopping by Mark.

Just got back from 2 days at King’s island. My regular ride partners are 3 young adults with autism. They’ll ride absolutely anything and love fireworks. I managed to get them on the last ride to the top of the Eiffel Tower. Just as the elevator door opened, the fireworks started. I spent as much time watching their delighted faces as I did watching fireworks. It was a short show…nothing out of the ordinary, but LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION is what it was all about! If you have kids who like fireworks, it is worth trying to get a spot up there. We hung out at the top until the last elevator ride down. It was fun to be able to look at all of the rides still lit up and talk about the rides we had been on that day. As for DARKNESS, we started riding The Beast at 9 p.m. and got in 4 rides before heading to the Eiffel Tower. I had never ridden it in the dark and it was truly worth it. Now I have to update my top 10 list! I can write up trip info & suggestions for you. Do you want them posted here or somewhere else or emailed to you? I think you’re gonna have a blast!
