Maximum RPM! Preview | Hard Rock Park

May 10, 2008

Maximum RPM Coaster Preview | Hard Rock Park – EXCLUSIVE!Maximum RPM - Hard Rock Park
On my recent media trip to Hard Rock Park I was lucky enough to become one of the first to get a tour of Maximum RPM. It’s a first of its kind roller coaster with a unique lift mechanism. The six person cars will enter a ferris wheel-like hub that will rotate cars to the top. Once cars reach the top, the cars will drop into the ride’s twisted layout.

As with the park’s other attractions, music is infused into several aspects of the ride. Maximum RPM! is located in Hard Rock’s British Invasion section with an 80′s New Wave theme. Guests waiting in the air conditioned queue line will be treated to karaoke performances from volunteers in line. So, if by chance the ride capacity’s not the greatest and the line moves slowly at least you’ll get to hear some guy murder an old Duran Duran song. Once aboard the cars, riders will get to choose a song for their lift and for the actual ride.

Maximum RPM! is set to open in June and looks to be a quite a memorable ride. You have to tip your hat to the team behind HRP, for taking the chance on a completely new concept like this. Check out these photos of Maximum RPM:

The ride’s a bit short, but with the karaoke, on-board speakers, the unique lift and car wash (when it’s working) add up to a pretty cool ride. The Hard Rock Park Blog has a complete ride review. Also, check out my full Hard Rock Park review.

The lift hill is very cool. But the rest of the ride seems kind of unremarkable. Other than the circular lift, are there any other elements that seem notable?

I think each car holds only 6 people so I bet it's a fast little ride. I bet you'll lose your stomach. lol. Isn't that the building from on one of the Pink Floyd albums? Tne one with the pig in the air? Karaoke in the queue line? Talk about a captive audience! Can't wait to check it all out.

I only wish I was in the area (or country!) to check this out. Any ride that has Mini Coopers (my favorite car) as their train is a must ride for me.

finally, a video posted may 23 on youtube shows the ferris wheel lift with cars in it. apparently the june 1st open date is not tangible because as you see here as of may 23rd the cars are still not being released from the wheel onto the rest of the circuit, so we can hope for a late june early july open date. Also note how long it takes for the track in the cylinder sections of the wheel to line up with the track on the 1st drop, now imagin people on the ride of different weights on each side of the car… thats going to be even longer. I thought that premier would have used a screw gear mechanism so that as the wheel lift turns, the cylinders would also turn to an exact postion at each point of the ride (for example on the 1001 natchs/1001 nights/flying carpet/rainbow flat rides, the platform carriage stays upright due to the screw gear mechanism that keeps the carriage at an exact position at each degree of the vertical circular path that the large arm the carriage is attached to that extends from the center of the circular path) but the cylinders on the wheel seem to be free swinging then positioned by a mechanism at the top of the lift, which i predict may cause problems when the cars have more weight of people on one side of the car versus the other. But anyway see for yourself…okay it won't let me leave the url but type in maximum rpm coaster test on youtube and select the video that shows the cars actually in the cylinders on the ferris wheel lift.
