Carowinds’ new hyper coaster Inimidator opened to the public on Saturday and I’ve been scouring the Web, local news stations, and talking to my friends who have ridden it to see how it is. I live about 30 minutes from the park, but I wasn’t able to make it to Media Day as I was welcoming a new member to

Recently, I stumbled across what may be… No, what IS the best commercial featuring a roller coaster ever. If you’re a roller coaster fanatic like myself then you likely imagine how a roller coaster would look in the landscapes and cityscapes that you encounter on a daily basis. This commercial for UK-based credit card, Barclaycard, seemlessly integrates a roller coaster

Thorpe Park’s Colossus opened in 2002 as the the first roller coaster to have ten loops. Today, it still holds the record as no roller coaster has went for eleven inversions yet. While I’m sure it’d be a dizzying ride I love looping roller coasters so I’d be fun to take the challenge someday. The Intamin-designed coaster has a vertical

There have been a number of shakeups in the amusement industry since I’ve started this blog in 2006. Closings, acquisitions, and sales have been a sign of the times for the industry. If the latest rumor in the theme park business World comes to fruition it would be more like an earthquake than a shakeup. The Wall Street Journal recently

Alton Towers has the hype machine going at full speed as the opening for their much anticipated new roller coaster draws near. Not much is known about Thirteen other than that it’s supposed to be so scary that there will be a controversial age limit. There was also talk of a limit to the times per day one could ride,

Here’s a first look at the new GT Coaster Challenge (now Fiorano GT Challenge) opening this year at Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi. The trains are themed after Ferrari F430 Spiders. Fittingly, the roller coaster will be a launch roller coaster. If the Roller Coaster Database listing is correct it’s being built by Maurer Sohne, the same company that built

Six Flags’ Texas Giant Gets a Steel Makeover for 2011 For months we’ve known that Texas Giant was closed and would not be open until the 2011 season. It was pretty clear that Six Flags was going to give the 24 year old woodie some needed rehab and/or re-tracking. But recently it was announced that Rocky Mountain Construction Group is

Longtime reader Judy sent in these great shots of Kennywood. There are a number of cool images of the Pittsburgh area park after a recent snow storm. She also sent a few images that show the construction site for the park’s 2010 roller coaster, Sky Rocket. Although, it doesn’t appear like too much actual construction has taken place. They were

This Bolliger & Mabillard low flying inverted coaster looks like a fun ride. Located at Phantasialand in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, the African-themed coaster dives below the ground a number of times. It’s subterranean sections are reminiscent of Montu’s Egyptian-themed trenches and Nemesis’s low flight path. It appears to spend even more time underground than those two rides.
