MSNBC.com’s 10 Gut-Churning Attractions – Amusement Park Rides For the Emetically Immune
Recently, I was interviewed by MSNBC.com for an article about extreme thrill rides and roller coasters. I came up with a list, but the writer only chose a few of them. He also chose a few rides from Robb Alvey of Theme Park Review and Robert Niles of Theme Park Insider That’s some great company.
It’s a pretty well-rounded list with roller coasters like Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point and X2 at Six Flags Magic Mountain, water rides like Perilous Plunge at Knotts Berry Farm and Scorpion’s Tail at Noah’s Ark Water Park, and thrill rides like Sky Jump at the Stratosphere and Mission SPACE at EPCOT.
The article’s author, Rob Levitt, asked for “the scariest attractions in North America.” He wanted more than just roller coasters and he preferred that the rides were newer. That was all the guidance he gave me. With that pretty open-ended request, this was the list that I came up with:
Griffon at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, Kingda Ka at Six Flags Great Adventure, Manta at SeaWorld Orlando, Intimidator 305 at Kings Dominion, X-Scream at the Stratosphere, Scorpion’s Tail at Noah’s Ark Water Park, & Wildebeest at Holiday World
I really tried to put on my ‘general public’ hat for this list. What might seem gut-churning to the general public and what we as coaster enthusiasts might find especially thrilling are two different things. Before anyone mentions it, I know that I don’t have a woodie listed. I was thinking about adding The Voyage, but I already had Wildebeest from the same park.

What’s Your Take?
How do you think I did with my list? What do you think of the complete list in the article? Leave a comment below. ‘Emetically’ is a form of the adjective ’emetic’ which means “causing vomit”.
