Dare Devil Dive Coming to Six Flags Over Georgia in 2011

September 1, 2010

Dare Devil Dive is Coming to Six Flags Over Georgia in 2011We can check off another one of the 11 Rumored Attractions for 2011. Today, Six Flags Over Georgia announced that they’ll be adding Dare Devil Dive in 2011. The looping roller coaster will feature a vertical lift, beyond vertical drop, and three inversions. Here’s more from Six Flags Over Georgia’s web site:

Dare Devil Dive’s mission begins as you’re pulled straight up to the sky on a special vertical chain lift, then slowly roll to the top of the tower nearly 100-feet in the air. After an agonizing pause at the crest of the summit, you plummet downward at an angle that is beyond straight down — it actually angles inward at a blistering 52 mph. it is the country’s first PAUSE element before the beyond vertical drop.

Then you careen through a thrilling combination of diving loops while executing three inversions before you catch air on a zero gravity hill and swoop across the dreaded Immelman vertical U turn stretched high above the ground. The crescendo builds as the car dives toward the ground and up into a Heartline roll before being slowed by the magnetic brakes.

Dare Devil Dive will be only the third Gerstlauer Euro-Fighter in America. The other two Euro-Fighters are SpongeBob SquarePants Rock Bottom Plunge at the Mall of America (Bloomington, MN) and the popular Mystery Mine at Dollywood (Pigeon Forge, TN) only 4 hours from Atlanta. And overseas SAW – The Ride, and it’s 100 degree drop, seemed to be a hit over in the UK when it opened in Thorpe Park last year.  There aren’t a lot of details yet beyond a few stats and marketing language above, but hopefully, Dare Devil Dive delivers the goods as well.

When I first saw the picture, I only saw the large hill, which led me to believe it was a Excelerator coaster…:(

    Still, the coaster looks fantastic!

I'm wondering if this is made by S&S, seeing as the first hill looks VERY similar to what the first hill of 'Hypersonic XLC' looked like.

Basically, the question is, is this made by S&S Power?

That's why CC mentioned it being America's only Gerstlauer Ero-Fighter.

PS-What dose the name Ero-Fighter come from, it seems like a very unlikley way to describe a coaster.?

I think I remember reading somewhere that some of the maneuvers this type of coaster can pull off mimic that of certain eurofighter plane maneuvers hence the name.

However I may have just imagined reading it somewhere so dont take it as gospel.

I would assume that it's called a eurofighter because 1. Gertslauer is from Europe, and 2. There is a fighter aircraft called the Eurofighter Typhoon, a delta wing twin engine jet that france and many other european countries use. This jet is capable of very tight maneuvers and tight high speed turns, which is also characteristic of these Gertslauer eurofighter coasters, too. Search it up! Eurofighter Typhoons are unique! Just as these Gertslauers!

Saw the ride wasnt a universal hit over here, many enthusiasts felt it was pretty rough, the effects were poor and it also kept breaking down. The general public however seem to love it. This is down to some clever marketing by Thorpe park. Alot of the people who go there are teenagers so the Saw theme fits perfectly aswell as the hyping ad's about it being the steepest (at the time) mean it does attract big crowds.

Most people who had knowledge of this kind of coaster were disappointed by it especially since mystery mine gets such high praise. Overall it should be a decent attraction but I doubt it will bring people from miles around to ride it.

I'm a big fan of Saw – The Ride, although I know it has divided opinion a bit among Thorpe Park fans. It sounds as though this one might be a little shorter as it will lack the initial indoor section that Saw has, but it should still be a great addition to the park.

Euro-Fighters are capable of pretty tight manoeuvres that you don't really see on too many other coasters – the only downside is that I've found they can be a little rough and headache-inducing.

I'm happy to see rides like this coming to the US. These rides are great for small parks as well as big ones, and don't take up as much space or coast as much money as some attractions, while still having the thrill to attract coaster enthusiasts. It's not an Intamin woodie or a B&M looper, but I think Six Flags is making a smart move by adding this ride., and i hope places like Cedar Point and Six Flags Great Adventure will get some of these rides, as well as small parks that are short on room, space, and thrills.

Looks like all the other lame attempts to copy Fahrenheit at HersheyPark. Seems like if you're gonna put a Saw/Fahrenheit type coaster in, why wouldn't you go bigger and faster? Which brings me to another inquiry.. I wonder why intamin doesn't continue to play with the vertical lift/beyond vert drop designs? Fahrenheit is an incredible coaster, hardly any downtime, loved by enthusiasts and general public alike, and decent capacity. I'm surprised we haven't seen more expansion from intamin with this deign.

Anyway, I'm sure it'll be a fun ride but it's certainly not going to bring in any crowds from out of town. But I'm admittedly a hersheypark fanboy, so it is what it is.

Yeah my first thought when reading this was Fahrenheit at Hershey which I got to ride 6 times back in May! Wonder how this one will stack up w/it? I also wondered why they didn't get Intamin to build a similiar coaster. Is it money related?

Yeah I'm wondering about the money issue too, but even that doesnt add up. Fahrenheit cost just over $12 mil. Saw cost just under $21 mil(US). Saw is 338 ft shorter (length), 21 ft shorter (height), 3 mph slower, and 2 less inversions. I know saw has a ridiculous ammount of theming, but DOUBLE the price? Do these Eurofighters have platinum tracks, gold lift chain, and diamond encrusted restraints? If I'm in charge of the checkbook for a park I'm calling intamin for my beyond vert coaster. Sorry Gerstlauer, an extra 3 degrees inward on the drop, some corrugated aluminum buildings, and fencing are not worth $9 mil. What also confuses me is that Fahrenheit was a pre-fab design from intamin. If they made one that was successful, where are the others? Not that I want any replicas anywhere stealing thunder from the king, but it would be awesome to see a 150-200 ft beyond vertical drop that hits 65-70 mph. Talk about a freefall!

After continuing research, it looks like Daredevil Dive is going to cost around $9 mil. So I guess the money issue might be a plausible reason. Also maybe six flags is looking for a safety net. The franchise has seen it's share of accidents and mantinence nightmares. These eurofighters have been around since 2003. Fahrenheit was intamin's first of this style in 2008. Not to say intamin isn't reputable (quite the contrary for coasters anyway), but maybe six flags went with the more experienced manufacturer.

All this research for a park I've never even been to. Hah, slow day at work.

SAW cost 9 million more than Fahrenheight. I suspect this is because the track is meant to hold a row of four people instead of two. What I'm basically getting at is that fact that the track is twice as big.

Looks like a great addition to the park, it's a nice middle ground thrill ride that's not too intense for the novice riders out there. hopefully it's just as good as Mystery Mine since it's only a few hours away, just sucks they're adding it the year AFTER I visit.

SpongeBob at MOA isn't a bad ride at all. It's pretty intense for an indoor coaster, and sitting in the outside seats got me a bit dizzy. Still, it's a pretty smooth ride. It looks like the cars are the same with two rows of four people. I imagine this will be better with more inversions and what I assume is a taller lift hill. Still, it will have to be pretty great to beat Fahrenheit, one of my personal favorites.

I agree with Mike. I know Six Flags is trying to cut costs, and they may have gone with Gerstlauer instead of Intamin in the interest of the bottom line.

I have ridden the spongebob coaster a few times. And it wasn't the MOA's first Gerstlauer either. Timberland Twister (Fairly Odd Coaster) was added a feew years before the Peanuts theme was lost.
