Did you hear it? There was a collective gasp yesterday. It occurred when several thousand coaster enthusiasts scrolled through yet another construction photo message board thread on Theme Park Review. Only this time they laid their eyes on some pretty impressive Texas Giant images. One image in particular has caused the most stir. It involves a crazily banked turn.

Okay. So, after additional looks, the turn isn’t quite physics defying. I think the trains will come towards the camera. So we’re looking at a crazy turn and pretty steep drop. I thought that that was a climb and turn we were looking at. Still, all of the images look really cool. I’m excited to see how this thing turns out.
I already had Texas and Six Flags Over Texas in particular on my radar for 2011, but it might have just moved ahead of Busch Gardens Tampa since I’ve been to BGT before. I’ve never been to SFOT and Texas Giant looks insane! There are usually a few construction updates like this every off-season that keep the winter months interesting for coaster fans.

Giant should have a new classification (not steel or wood). But that turn looks sick! If that could be done with Son of Beast…

I see it as being a steel coaster, because it is classified based on the type of track. It's a lot like Gemini @ Cedar Point.

i wouldn't compare this to Gemini. first of all, Gemini blows. it supposedly goes 60 mph, but you feel no speed at all, and there is not a trace of airtime on the whole ride. second, the wood decor that surrounds the twin snoozer isn't even connected to the track. (or doesn't seem to be). its a tubular steel track with steel supports, enclosed with some B.S. woodwork to fool people in the queue. Whereas this Texas Giant re-profiling looks to be flat steel track and wood everything else. The coaster should still sway and give like a woodie, just with less bounce and rattle due to the new track. So i hope anyway, the world needs no more bastardized junk heaps like Gemini.

Um…. How is this possible? Isn't Texas Giant being moved? And if so, was this there before? IDK?????

It's not being moved, but it IS being reprofiled, with its wooden track being replaced by new, steel track. It is also recieving new trains. I would guess that a similar element to that turn was there before, and it's profile is being changed. As for your first question (How is this possible?), the answer is Math and Science.

The Overbank is one of my favorite elements, and one I’m sad to say isn’t built into too many woodies. I’m happy TG is receiving this one, and I hope that it will work well enough to be incorpartated into more wooden rides around the globe.
