Dare Devil Dive – POV Video & Early Reviews

May 28, 2011

Dare Devil Dive Roller Coaster - Six Flags Over GeorgiaSix Flags Over Georgia’s Dare Devil is Open
Just in time for Memorial Day weekend, Six Flags Over Georgia’s Dare Devil Dive is open for business. The new Gerstlauer coaster features a beyond vertical super steep, 95-degree drop. After that riders are treated to an onslaught of loops and a pretty fun looking course. The ride features the World’s first V-shaped cars with stadium seating.

Early Reviews of Dare Devil Dive at Six Flags Over Georgia
A review on Theme Park Review, calls the ride “fun”, points out some “awesome hang time on the barrell roll”. The reviewer also remarks that he left the ride “pleasantly surprised”. However, it does sound like ride capacity may be an issue, which isn’t surprising considering Dare Devil Dive’s 6-person train cars. So, while lines are long for all new rides, lines may be ridiculously long for this one. Learn how to avoid long lines from my Best Days to Visit Theme Parks post (from 2006!). Also, read the poster’s full review of Dare Devil Dive.

His review is pretty much what I expected or hoped for in Dare Devil Dive. It doesn’t look like a potential challenger to the looping coaster throne, but it does look like a solid, maybe even stand-out new ride. I really wanted to make it down to Atlanta for Dare Devil’s media day as I’m only 4 hours away, but I couldn’t. I’m planning to visit Six Flags Over Georgia later this Summer and I’m really looking forward to experiencing a type of coaster that I’ve never encountered.

Check out this on-ride POV video of Dare Devil Dive at Six Flags Over Georgia:

This looks like a lot of fun, especialy with a lap bar instead of a shoulder harness.

Good point Quil. I forgot to mention that in my post. There aren't too many loopers these days with lap bars.

I hope the Eurofighter up by me will get converted to lap bars in a month or two. Mystery Mine will probably be first though. CC, have you heard about the new Japanese Eurofighter at Fuji-Q?

I cannot wait to go to six flags this summer to ride Dare Devil Dive! I live ten minutes from the park so it won't be hard. Maybe could use a tad bit better theming (maybe real fire instead of a cookie-cutter fire ring hoop and maybe a lighted tunnel instad of a plain one) but other than that the ride looks sick! :D I've been on two Europhighters one in UK the other in Tennesee they are just so fun and so well themed. Thats the only drawback to Georgia's. What's your take CC?

Yeah. Theming doesn't look to be a strong point, but you can tell they at least tried. I've seen many, many less themed coasters.

And I do need to get back to Dollywood for Mystery Mine. My only visit there was the year before it was built.

It was a neat coaster. really exciting on the way up with just the lap bar. Lines weren't that bad… I went on it twice on May 30. they had all four cars running and you had to get a stamped return time. The wait time was about 30-45 minutes. the wait was much longer for batman and superman. TOTALLY WORTH IT, RIDE IT SOMETIME>

It might be me, but whenever i see this ride, i am reminded of SAW – The Ride. It's Probably the layout.

I was really underwhelmed by this one. Not tall enough, not fast enough and not long enough. Fortunately we had no wait in line, as we went on an early June weekday. I would not recommend waiting more than 30 minutes to ride this. Goliath remains by far the best coaster at SFOG – this one doesn't come close to matching it.

can a bigger person fit on this ride with the lapbars or is it for smaller people? I ask because im pretty busty, worried about getting the bar down! or does it just come over your lap?

This reminds me of Anubis at Plopsaland in Belgium. Weren't they supposed to stop you at the top like a B and M dive coaster?

Although the last picture shows a brake at the top so maybe they aren't doing it yet.

That was just a trim break to slow it for a little hang time on that drop. No pause; i went on it recently :( but still loads of fun

I rode this yesterday when the line wasn't too long I was actually really happy with the ride. Although it was a really short time and not the tallest ride in the world the drop, smoothness, and the last zero G roll were especially fun! Great ride!

Nope. I haven't made it back to Six Flags Over Georgia yet. There's still a chance that I might make it down there before the end of the season. If I do, I'll definitely have a review of it up.

I was unimpressed with this ride..it seemed like they put it in there just to fill up space. It was exciting going up the hill, but once your past that it's just a smooth ride..nothing exciting about it. I didn't have any intention of waiting in line to ride it again.
