Featured Photo #18 – A Cobra & 30 Horses

May 19, 2011

Cobra Roll Meets Carousel at Six Flags Fiesta Texas

I thought this was an interesting snapshot of the clashing of two eras of amusement rides. I took this photo on my recent trip to Six Flags Fiesta Texas. It was a beautiful park and probably my favorite Six Flags park in terms of aesthetics. There was a surprising amount of greenery and some of the best theming I’d seen at a Six Flags.
Over in the Rockville area that’s themed to look like a Main Street USA circa the 1950′s, I came across this interesting sight. At the end of the street was a carousel with an awesome piece of red curved steel positioned just behind it in Superman Krypton Coaster’s cobra roll.

Disclaimer – I didn’t actually count the horses on the ride, I just looked up the average number of horses I saw in a listing of carousels for sale. So please, classic ride junkies go easy on me.

Hopefully the horses won't stampede, if they do, all of the two-year-olds will have nothing to do! :)

On a slightly more serious note, I imagine that the sound of the coaster probably overpowers the sound of Carosel music. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

It'll be my next review. I had the Hellcat review all ready to go, so I published it. Krypton should be up within the next week or so.

That is a cool pic. Don't you think that Superman Krypton Coaster might scare little kids on the carousel with its thunderous B&M roar, though? Still a great pic. Fiesta texas might be beautiful, but six flags great adventure is the best six flags. But i can understand great adventure isnt as nice looking as other parks. This may be due to so many people going there.

When I first saw the title of this post, I thought you were talking about Krypton's Horsepower. Why don't they list that as a stat?

I'm not a gear head, but I'm pretty sure you need an engine to measure horsepower. Krypton is gravity-powered like most coasters so I think miles per hour and g-forces do the trick.

the measure the speed and horsepower on a car.

It's probably just not appropriate because coasters don't have engines. That's my guess, anyway.

on a launched coaster it might make sense. a guy on the maintenance staff at Knott's stated the horsepower of Xcelerator's hydraulic launch system before, can't remember the numbers but it was something ridiculously high, several thousand.

I think the Horsepower is probably the amount of force that the car/train is pushed by to make it move.
