Featured Photo #25 – The Hardest Working Mascot

If this image startled you, I apologize. That’s Boom the Troll from Myrtle Beach’s defunct Freestyle Music Park. He wasn’t a well-known mascot, but he was one of the most active I’ve ever seen. His job didn’t end after strolling around the park and posing for photos. Boom tweeted, made YouTube appearances around town, and he even had his own

Top 3 Most Wanted European Theme Parks

While I’ve yet to make it across the pond to visit any of the great theme parks in Europe, I’ve had my eyes on several parks over there for years. In this week’s Top 3 Thursdays I’m going to list (in no particular order) the theme parks that I’d like to visit the most in the Old Country. As usual,

Grizzly @ Kings Dominion | Roller Coaster Reviews

Remember that roller coaster that everyone talked about when you were young? That one ride that was considered a kind of local legend of sorts. These rides were sometimes the focus of juvenile horror stories, myths, and just plain made up stories. The folklore often stemmed from respect and fear of that one wild roller coaster that you just had

Iron Wolf Could Be Headed from Chi-Town to the Capital, Just Like the Pres. Arguably one of the most trusted news source in the industry, Screamscape, has reported that stand-up roller coaster Iron Wolf is leaving Six Flags Great America (Chicago). Built in 1990, RCDB lists Iron Wolf as Bolliger & Mabillard’s first roller coaster. Apparently Six Flags America (Washington

Featured Photo #24 – 74 Years & 120 Feet

I took this photo back in 2003 near the end of a Knoebels & Dorney Park trip. The hyper coaster, Steel Force, dominates the skyline at the Allentown, PA park. And here, it dominates the classic woodie Thunderhawk. Steel Force’s peak reaches the 200 foot mark while the wooden coaster in the foreground is only 80 feet tall. There are

Survey Markers for Carowinds Rumored 2012 Ride

Today Screamscape reported a survey marker sighting at Carowinds for a rumored 2012 ride near Intimidator, but no one had photos. So I went down to the park after work and saw a number of markers in the grassy field next to Intimidator. They have “HUSS GF” written on them which likely means the park is getting a Huss Giant

6 Best Theme Park Tips Posts

Over the years I’ve tried to share my tips for theme park trips. Here are my best posts in that category. Flash Pass or No Flash Pass No one likes waiting in line at amusement parks. But when is it a good idea to fork over the extra cash to pay for a flash pass? In this post I offer

Tremors at Silverwood | Most Wanted Roller Coasters

Is Tremors at Silverwood An Underrated Coaster? Silverwood (Athol, Idaho) is the largest theme park in the Northwest. It doesn’t have a very large coaster lineup, but the 1999 CCI woodie, Tremors, seems to be pretty highly regarded. It’s ranked an impressive 9th in the U.S. and 17th in the World in Mitch Hawker’s 2010 Internet Wooden Coaster Poll. With

Is the Trimless Intimidator 305 Better in 2011?

A reader suggested that I write a post asking everyone how Intimidator 305 was this year. The Giga coaster (meaning taller than 300 feet), is among the tallest roller coasters in the World. That extreme height, means a massive drop, and that drop generated some intense grey out-inducing g-forces when it opened last year. So, this past winter Kings Dominion gave
