Is Carowinds Up to Something with Those FURY Billboards?

For about a month now I’ve been seeing billboards in the Charlotte area that simply read “FURY”. The billboards have nothing but the four giant letters with a kind of steel-texturing to them. I figured that this had to be some type of viral marketing campaign as the sign didn’t mention any other details. No web address, phone number, P.O.

And The T-Shirt Winner Is…

It’s time to announce the winner of the “Eat Sleep Ride” T-shirt. My daughter was happy to do the honors. She picked the winner using a random drawing software. The winner is Trent. While it was random, it was nice that the winner was an active member of Theme Park Hype and this blog. As a side note, Trent blogs

Featured Photo #28 – Invertigos A No-Go

Six Flags America’s Two Face was one of the roller coasters that Six Flags added to Adventure World when it bought  the park. Along with launch coaster Joker’s Jinx, hyper coaster Superman: Ride of Steel and flying coaster Batwing, the park’s lineup of modern thrill rides boomed in only a few years. Two Face had a run of accidents before

Six Flags Great America’s Rumored 2012 Wing Coaster

Is Six Flags Great America Adding a B&M Wing Roller Coaster for 2012? Chicago area theme park, Six Flags Great America could be in for quite an upgrade. They’re losing B&M stand up coaster Iron Wolf, which is rumored to become Apocalypse at DC’s Six Flags America, but they may be gaining a first-of-its kind in the U.S. ScreamScape has

Earthquake Shakes Kings Dominion & Busch Gardens

Just before 2 PM today a surprise earthquake shook the East coast. The quake’s epicenter was in Central Virginia near the town of Mineral.  That’s only about 30 miles from Kings Dominion and about 100 miles from Busch Gardens Williamsburg. The 5.8 magnitude rumbler was felt at both parks and as a safety precaution rides have been temporarily closed. Mosts

Reviews of the WindSeekers & SkyScreamers

Tower Rides Rule the Skies in the Summer of 2011 This year, a number of towering swing rides debuted at theme parks across the continent. WindSeekers debuted at four Cedar Fair parks: Canada’s Wonderland, Cedar Point, Kings Island, and Knott’s Berry Farm. They’re identical (I think) 301′ tall swing rides that spin riders at 30 mph. And, Six Flags installed two similar high altitude swings

Canada’s Wonderland to Add Leviathan, A Giga Roller Coaster in 2012 Canada’s Wonderland will be going big for 2012 with Leviathan a 306-foot tall monster of a roller coaster. Leviathan joins the park’s 2008 hyper coaster Behemoth giving the park a 1-2 punch of extreme size and speed akin to Cedar Point’s Magnum XL-200 & Millennium Force combo. Leviathan will be

Featured Photo #27 = Wesley Snipes + Intamin

A ride to the top of Kings Dominion’s 305 foot tall Drop Tower: Scream Zone is quite a harrowing ascent even for a seasoned coaster vet like myself. There’s quite a difference between a roller coaster car and just seats with restraints. At the top, Drop Tower holds its ring of 56 seats for a few seconds. These few seconds
