New Construction Video for Cedar Point’s GateKeeper

March 10, 2013

Cedar Point’s highly anticipated new wing roller coaster GateKeeper is looking great. Last week, Cedar Point added this new construction update video.

Last year I was lucky enough to ride wing coasters Wild Eagle and X-Flight. They offered exciting, but smooth rides via their aerial maneuvers and exposed seating positions. Eventually, it’ll be fun to compare GateKeeper to these two, but I don’t know if I’ll make it to Cedar Point this year.

Cedar Point was smart to add the keyhole structures. Similar structures on X-Flight probably took that ride from an 8 to a 9. I also like the ride’s color scheme although I can’t imagine they had too many choices with so many coasters already populating the park’s skyline. That’s a good problem to have.

See the full animated preview video and read more about Cedar Point’s GateKeeper.

How do you think GateKeeper looks? Do you have plans to make it to Cedar Point this year? Props to Velkro who posted this on ThemeParkHype!

Gatekeeper is truly an awesome looking coaster. That position on the beach and the way the ride makes that “Front Gate Statement” is amazing. The paint scheme is the best one I’ve seen in a while. The wing over drop is definitely going to be interesting. I’m still amazed at those two massive keyholes. I’m one who always put their hands down on headchoppers that are 10 ft above me so going through the keyholes is going to be an experience I’m both begging for and dreading for. If the front entrance turns out the way it looks in the new concept art then the front entrance is going to make a “Better than Disney” Statement. I can’t wait to ride this 170 ft tall beast!!!

Is so excited for this ride! I’ll be there opening day to get a ride or 5. That first drop looks more than intimidating. Great coaster for cedar point.

I think I might have went to CP a year too early. This looks like everything I could want in a coaster. Oh well, at least I’ll get to experience the other two US wing coasters this year…

Visiting from Australia in June, cannot wait to get back to Cedar Point! We were last there in 2007. GateKeeper looks amazing, have not ridden a winged coaster before. Also cannot wait to get back on Wicked Twister – was one of my favourite rides last time.

Cool. Make sure you let us know what you think after you ride it. Hopefully I’ve got some international theme park trips in my future as well.

Well if you do, don’t bother coming to Australia. Not much in the way of thrill rides here!! A few theme parks in Queensland that have a few good rides each, but nothing like the big parks you have there.

It’s a bit dated now as this list is from 2008, but do you agree that these are your country’s best? http://www.thecoastercritic.com/2008/07/top-3-australian-roller-coasters.html

Also, how’s Friday? I guess it’s mid-day there already for you and we’re still a few hours away from midnight here in the ‘States. Greetings from the past! :)
