Today Busch Garden Tampa announced Falcon’s Fury, a new drop tower ride coming Spring 2014.
Falcon’s Fury will stand at 335 feet and take riders soaring 60 mph straight down. Located in the Timbuktu™ area, Falcon’s Fury will be visible from any location in the park and even across the Tampa Bay area.
At the ride’s highest point Busch Gardens has added an element of surprise. Like its bird of prey namesake, riders will pivot 90 degrees in midair to a face-down dive position. An instant later they’ll plunge 60 mph at 3.5 Gs straight down with speed and power like they’ve likely never experienced before.
Check out this video about Falcon’s Fury:
Falcon’s Fury’s forward-tilting seats are a cool feature that should give a pretty standard attraction something new. I do wonder if, due to the forces of gravity and the way your body will be positioned, whether the free fall sensation will be more or less facing the ground this way. Even if it is less, ratcheting up the challenge by giving riders an unusual perspective might be a good trade-off.
It looks like it’ll have a great view of one of the best-looking parks around. And with an already stellar lineup of roller coasters including Kumba and Montu (which are in my Top 10), as well as multi-launch coaster Cheetah Hunt and dive coaster SheiKra, Falcon’s Fury could help round out the park’s thrilling attractions.
