Today, Carowinds announced what we can expect from the first year of the 3 year $50 million dollar investment. In 2014, Carowinds will open two new water slides in the park’s water park Boomerang Bay. Surfer’s Swell and Dorsal Fin Drop will bulk up the park’s water slide offerings.
Here’s more from the official press release:
Surfer’s Swell will travel a total of 263 feet; riders will plunge onto an angled wall that mimics the sensation of catching an ocean wave. Guests then gracefully enter a final tunnel for a fun ‘splash landing’ into a pool at the bottom of this 45 foot tall experience. Dorsal Fin Drop offers 351 feet of slide and takes riders on the whirl of a lifetime as they gain speed in a curved-tunnel that blasts them into a bowl. Like a shark circling its prey, guests spin and swirl before sliding into the corkscrew exit.
Enhanced Dining Facilities & Healthier Options
The second part of today’s announcement falls into the guest experience category. Carowinds also announced enhanced dining facilities and menu options. They shared that healthier options will be on the way as well as more air-conditioned venues.
In addition to the 2 new slides, Carowinds will enhance the dining experience and food offerings at the park with a multi-million dollar investment. The investment will provide guests with a broader variety of food service options; additional air-conditioned venues and expanded capacity to feed and entertain the thousands of daily visitors at the park.
Not the BIG Announcement, But…
While Carowinds’ 2014 plans weren’t quite as large as Cedar Fair had hinted at with the “World record-breaking attraction” comment, we still know that there’s a total of $50 million that will go into the park over the next few years. So, 2015 or 2016 might be big years for the park. For now though, the infrastructure upgrades (like more air-conditioned dining) and beefing up a water park (that many felt needed more slides) are a good start.
I was at the park with my family recently, we were looking for a cool place to eat, and there really weren’t many options. Also, my oldest daughter is turning into a water slide fan so I think she’ll be excited for these water slides. So both of these additions are good news to a family of season pass holders.
Location for the New Slides
Here’s are images showing where the new slides will be located. The first is a screenshot from a video that was given out during the announcement. It shows the area from the ground. The second is a satellite image so you can see where the area is in context to the rest of Boomerang Bay:
