Recently, I came across the Coaster Doodler. Brody Rose sketches roller coasters onto images in issues of the local DC newspaper, The Express. During his 40 minute subway commute, he finds an image that catches his attention and he integrates a roller coaster in a variety of ways. Sometimes he puts the people in the images on coasters trains and

Six Flags America’s Two Face was one of the roller coasters that Six Flags added to Adventure World when it bought the park. Along with launch coaster Joker’s Jinx, hyper coaster Superman: Ride of Steel and flying coaster Batwing, the park’s lineup of modern thrill rides boomed in only a few years. Two Face had a run of accidents before

Wikipedia describes a cult following as: a term used to refer to a group of fans who are highly dedicated to a specific area of pop culture. It goes on to define it as a: small but very passionate fan base. I think the term accurately describes coaster enthusiasts love for Holiday World (and years ago) Raven in particular. Before The Voyage

It looks like Intamin has made a design for a roller coaster with 12 inversions. It appears to have some elements that are featured on their 10 inversion coasters, Fahrenheit, and the Mega-Lite coasters. The order of the inversions would be: Norwegian Loop Cobra Roll Vertical Loop Four Corkscrews Three Heartline Rolls There are also a few airtime hills mixed in. Supporting

Deep within the bowels of the Loch Ness Monter’s lair I was able to snap this photo of one of the blueprints that lined the wall. The few times I’ve been lucky enough to get behind-the-scenes roller coaster tours I’ve geeked out when I encountered blueprints. Of course I couldn’t tell you anything about what’s actually in this blueprint, it’s just

This is the final part of my coverage of Coaster Stock 2010 at Carowinds. After the Intimidator Tour, there was another break. Again, attendants dispersed throughout the park. I headed for the above average Arrow looper, Carolina Cyclone only to get caught by a thunder storm. All rides were halted for fear of lightning strikes. I waited in the station

This is the continuation of my coverage of Coaster Stock 2010 at Carowinds. During lunch, we were treated to a Q&A session with Bob Mampe from Bolliger & Mabillard. I’ve paraphrased the questions and responses below. In hindsight, I should have video taped the session, but I think that I’ve been able to summarize the bulk of the Q&A session.

Coaster Stock Part 1: Morning ERT Carowinds’ roller coaster enthusiast event Coaster Stock kicked off with morning ERT (exclusive ride time). Hours before the park was open to the public, we had Afterburn, Woodstock Gliders, Lucy’s Crabby Cabbie & Flying Ace Aerial Chase all to ourselves. Are you wondering why three of the four rides are located in Planet Snoopy (the

Aspiring roller coaster designers should take note. Not only will Carowinds’ roller coaster enthusiast event, Coaster Stock, feature plenty of ERT (Exclusive Ride Time), but the event will also feature a rare opportunity to talk with a roller coaster designer. Recently, the park announced that Bob Mampe from Bolliger & Mabillard will be on-hand to take questions. Here’s the full itinerary:

This news is just big enough for me to briefly pause my hiatus. Sony Pictures has acquired the rights to make a Roller Coaster Tycoon movie. More from Reuters: Sony Pictures Animation has pre-emptively picked up rights to the Atari video game “Rollercoaster Tycoon,” and is developing the project as a live-action/CGI hybrid. The “Tycoon” franchise, created by Chris Sawyer,
